Miss. St defeats Raiders

By Ryan Hehr
Wright State had tremendous shooting from four players on Wednesday night against Mississippi State. Troy Tabler (22 points), Ronnie Thomas (14), Todd Brown (12) and Vaughn Duggins (10) each scored in double digits for the Raiders. Normally when WSU has four players in double figures, it's enough to get them past anyone.

Box Score

However, it wasn't enough to defeat Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs shot 63 percent from the field as they went on to defeat Wright State 80-69, giving the Raiders a 6-4 record through the first ten games of the season.

The loss is Wright State's second straight, with the last loss coming in a heartbreaker to Miami on Sunday afternoon. It's also their third road loss in their last four road games. The only team Wright State has beaten during that time is Toledo (66-56).

The bright spot for the Raiders came from Tabler, who led the Raiders with a career high six three-pointers and had his third 20 point game in the last four games.

In the game, the Raiders were slow to come out of the gate as the Bulldogs took an early 10-2 lead that WSU was never ever to recover from.

As the half went on MSU continued to increase it's lead and took a 21-8 lead with 10:07 left in the first half thanks to a three-pointer from Romero Osby.

After that, WSU clawed their way back into the game and a jump shot from Todd Brown put the Raiders to within two, making the score 29-27 with 4:46 left to play in the half. But MSU answered back going on a 14-4 to end the half and giving themselves a 43-31 lead at the midway point.

Things remained the same in the secoond half as Wright State was never able to gain ground on the Bulldogs. Every time WSU made a basket, MSU answered with one of their own.

Wright State will now take on Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Nutter Center. The home game is should be a comfortable one for the Raiders. They have yet to lose on their home court.
