Box Score (PDF)

WSU led just 14-13 after a layup by Belmont’s Scott Saunders at the 12:59 mark of the opening stanza, but the Raiders dominated the next seven minutes, scoring the next 15 points before the Bruins broke the scoring drought with 5:33 remaining. Wright State led by as much as 20 twice down the stretch before holding a 45-27 halftime advantage.

The Raiders blistered the nets for 59 percent (16-27) in the first half, including four of nine from three-point range. Wright State also forced Belmont into 12 turnovers while committing only four, resulting in a 14-0 differential in points off of turnovers.

WSU then scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 25 and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way until a Belmont three in the closing seconds accounted for the final margin.

For the contest, the Raiders shot 57 percent from the field, including eight of 17 from behind the arc, and also made 16 of 20 free throws. Belmont, meanwhile, shot 47 percent from the floor, was six of 18 from three-point range, and hit 19 of 26 from the line.

The Bruins held a 30-24 rebounding advantage, including 11-5 on the offensive end, as they led 13-7 in second-chance points, but Wright State countered by forcing 18 turnovers while committing 13 as the Raiders led 20-14 in points off of turnovers.

Brown scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as he hit five of seven shots, including two threes. He was nine of 13 from the floor overall. Tabler added 16 points, tying a career high he set Saturday against Portland State, as he hit three threes. Cory Cooperwood had 12 points, N’Gai Evans eight assists and Cooper Land nine points and five rebounds.

Mick Hedgepeth paced Belmont (1-2) with 19 points while Saunders had 10 off the bench.

After taking final exams this week, Wright State (2-1) returns to action on Tuesday, November 24, as the Raiders open their home portion of their schedule with a 7:00 matchup against the Central Michigan Chippewas at the Nutter Center. That game will be a “Raiders Represent” event, with free admission to anyone who wears WSU apparel to the game.
