By Kevin C. Smith
The Wright State Women's Team (9-8HL/13-15 overall) easily defeated Loyola (3-14 HL/8-19 overall) tonight at the Nutter Center, 64-44. Loyola jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 25 seconds into the game. But at the 18:37 mark they saw what would be their only lead in the game, disappear when Sophomore Shey Peddy tied the game at 2. That would be the only tie in the game. The Lady Raiders never looked back.

The Raiders would steadily build their lead over the Ramblers and would have a 19 point lead twice during the half before finishing the first period with a 31-17 lead. Peddy was leading an all-team charge with 8 points, 3 assists, 1 steal and two rebounds. Classmate LaShawna Thomas was sinking six points while she pulled down 4 rebounds. Junior Erica Richardson and Freshman Ta-myra Davis each pulled down 5 boards while combining for seven points in the half.

The team shot 37.8% (14-37) compared to Loyola only hitting 25% (5-20). Nine Wright State players contributed points in the first half while as a team they controlled the boards 24-15. The team effort was paying off for the Lady Raiders.

The Loyola Ramblers came out in the second half and had the WSU lead down to 14 points at the 16:33 mark. Two baskets each by Richardson and Freshman Molly Fox and one by Davis gave the Raiders a 21 point lead at the 12:02 point and the Ramblers were finished. The Raiders would have a 24 point lead twice in the second half before the buzzer sounded and the Raiders got the twenty point win, 64-44.

Davis picked up her second double-double with 10 points and eleven rebounds. She also grabbed a steal and had two assists. Peddy lead the team's scoring with 13 points, five assists, two steals and three boards. Thomas missed the double-double by two points, sinking 8 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Wright State played their entire bench tonight and they provided 28 points for the team.

The Raiders finished with 48 rebounds to just 29 for the Ramblers. They had 21 turnovers to 26 for Loyola while shooting 46.7 %( 14-30) in the second half. They finished with 41.8% shooting in front of 156 fans. The 64-44 win is a good way for them to go into their last game of the season. That game will be important for them in the HL Tournament next week.

Saturday they will host UIC. Going into tonight, the two teams were tied at 8-8, with WSU holding the 6th seed. However, with all the women's team still having two games left in the regular season before tonight's games, WSU could finish anywhere from 4th to 7th seed for the tournament. If they get the fourth seed they will host the opening round on Monday. However, the win tonight means they can finish no lower than sixth seed.

Saturday is the women's final home game. They will host UIC at 1pm. It is also Senior Night for Mallory Wyrick the only senior on the team. It will be a tough closing to the season, so come out and help them go out on a winning note!
