Cleveland State (14-8/8-3 HL) is currently holding second place in the HL, while Wright State (9-12/6-4 HL) has been holding fourth place. CSU has made a major turn around in their play this year and holds a 27-22 lead in this series overall. They beat Wright State at home this season 68-54. The Lady Raiders will need to play their best to get a win in this game.
5-11 Sophomore Guard Kailey Klein leads Cleveland State and the HL in scoring 18.9ppg. Those points also place her at #21 nationally for scoring. Klein also averages 5.6 boards per game. CSU as a team is #3 in the HL sinking 42.8% of their shots. The Lady Raiders are #2 in that category with 43.4%.
Klein is not the only threat the Lady Raiders must contend with. Senior Guard Brittany Korth is sinking 13.6ppg and grabbing 4.6 rebounds each outing. This could also turn into a game of steals as both teams have nationally ranked player in that category.
CSU has Dominique Butler grabbing 2.6 steals, putting her 51 in the nation, while WSU boats Shey Peddy with 3.3 steals - the 14th best in the nation. Fast hands and turnovers can possibly decide this game. WSU must limit its turnovers. Currently they average 22.2 TOs per game, the most in the HL.
Peddy has been impressive all season as a freshman. Besides steals, she is also nationally ranked at 23 with a 55.9% FG percentage. In the HL, she is #4 with 15.5ppg and number #1 in steals. Her ability to be both a threat outside the arc as well as in the arc makes her someone Cleveland State will need to control.
Senior Whitney Lewis is another nationally ranked player for Wright State. Lewis is third in the nation for three point FG percentage shooting 47.3% from beyond the arc. That of course makes her #1 in the HL. She also is 13th in the HL in scoring 12.3ppg.
This game has the potential to be a great match up. CSU is sinking 66.2ppg while WSU gets 58.6ppg. With the players on these two teams however, anything can happen. This is a great chance for Raider fans to come out and watch our women's team in action. Then stay on for the men's game at 8pm.
The Lady Raiders will host Cleveland State at 5:30 on Thursday. Next up they will finish a three game home stand hosting Youngstown State on Saturday at 1pm in the Nutter Center. The men will play at 7 that night as well.
