Overtime loss in Milwaukee

By Ryan Hehr
Wright State's 67-61 overtime loss to Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 16, isn't what the doctor ordered for the Raiders.

It's the second straight time the game went down to the wire and the Raiders came up short and it's their third loss in four games, all of which were against Horizon League opponents. The only win Wright State has had during that time came against Valparaiso, which was the result of a late game jump-shot from Vaughn Duggins that put the Raiders up 59-57 with 4.7 seconds remaining.

And the losses are starting to show just how much they are hurting Wright State in the league standings.

The Raiders are currently 4-4 against league opponents which puts them fourth in the league standings. Ahead of the Raiders are Detroit (5-3), Green Bay (6-2) and Butler (7-0). Second place is a long short, but still obtainable. First place is all but lost for the Raiders.

The way Wright State is letting these games get away isn't promising either.

Against both Green Bay and Milwaukee, the Raider held big leads in the first half. The Raiders had a 15 point lead over Milwaukee and a nine point lead over Green Bay. Both turned into losses for the Raiders.

Despite the dark areas, there is a bright spot for Wright State. In each of the last three games the Raiders have over come late game deficits to give their opponents a run for their money. Valparaiso, Green Bay and Milwaukee were ahead by as many as nine in the second half of each of those games went to the wire.

The only downfall is Wright State was on the losing of two of those three games.

The men will have a week now to think about how to come out on top in those close games. Their next game isn't until Saturday, January 23 against Detroit, which will be a big game for Wright State.

With neither team having a game during the week a Raiders win will mean they move into third place in the league standings. A loss will mean Wright State will fall below .500 against Horizon League opponents.
